Sheppard East LRT Construction Begins
Construction has begun on the Sheppard East LRT. Well, no big shovels yet, but service markings have been underway for the first stages of construction, particularly relocation of some services from Kennedy over to McCowan.
An article in today’s National Post talks of this work.

The nightmare begins. One can only imagine how it will be to travel around in Toronto in 5 years. Think about it you’ll have the Sheppard lrt, Finch West lrt, Scarborough RT, The Spadina Subway extension, and even The Eglinton line all under construction.
Cal’s comment: The Sheppard East LRT is scheduled to open in 2013 - that is only four years away. Finch will likely be just finishing up about that time. Unfortunately, that is the price we have to pay for decades of neglect while we play catch-up.
If traffic is that bad, hopefully paying $2.50 per litre for fuel will prompt many to at least car pool until the LRT that is along their way is ready!

As anyone who has renovated their home, the construction of any renovation or improvements will be a “nightmare” during that phase. Just look at the old photographs of the Yonge subway construction with their wood decks and diversions, and what there is now under Yonge Street.
