Posting Duplicate Comments

Sunday, June 10th, 2012

Over the past month or two, there have been a number of comments posted on this site that have not made it to visible status. It is not the policy of this site to censor a point of view. In fact, I appreciate contrary opinions as it give me a chance to clarify points I make.

The posts in question involve points that are both in line and contrary to my own opinions, but the problem with them is that they were not original. In each case, someone has taken comments posted on other sites and performed a copy and paste as if they were their own point being made here. In many cases, it is obvious as the pseudo-poster has included quotes from related posts on the originating site that are out of context at best, and unintelligible at worst, when pasted in as a comment on this site. In most cases, I have reason to believe they are simply intended to provide a link to a commercial site that is of no specific interest to someone reading a site on transit, which is why they have not appeared here.

I bring this up as there could be a possibility of a valid post getting nixed, despite what I believe is careful consideration before killing it. I don’t have a problem with someone posting their point on multiple sites. Heck, one of my beliefs is that I should never have to type something if it has ever been typed in the history of the world.

If you want to write, “the sky is green” on ten sites, go ahead and type it once, copy it, and paste it on each site, including this site (as long as that is a topic of discussion!). Just don’t go writing on another site, “John said the sky is purple and I believe it is green” and paste that on this site, unless you are reacting to the same comment made by ‘John’ on this site.

LRT and Subway Myths

Monday, March 19th, 2012

I have added a new page to the site outlining some LRT and Subway Myths. This blog posting is here to provide a forum for comments, suggestions, and arguments coming from that page.

Major Changes Coming to this Site

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

March 19 update: further changes have been made to the layout of city pages thanks to feedback from a few sources, most notable from Matthew Lam. The Denver page is the first to undergo this new layout with such features as larger print and specific sections that are linked by a contents list at the top of the page. Over the next few weeks, other cities will undergo this change starting with the Minneapolis and Baltimore pages.

March 15 update: the full launch of the new look is now online, though a number of individual pages still have to undergo a conversion.

March 3 update: a sneak preview is now available on the Minneapolis page. This was the first page created on this site to show LRT in other cities, so it was chosen as the first to get the updated look. That, and the need to update a few of the details!

Major changes to the look and feel of this site are underway and should begin to appear online in a week or so.My thanks to all those who sent me messages regarding suggestions, all were very constructive and have been taken into account in one form or another. Watch for the new look coming soon!

Changes Coming to This Site

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

My apologies to those who check back here regularly looking for new information, since few new additions have been made recently. That will change over the next few weeks.

One change will be a significant update to the York Region Options page. The Spadina Subway extension is underway, so there is no point in in dwelling on what could have been done with the funds. Since there has been no commitment in the funding of a Yonge Subway extension to Richmond Hill, and since its cost is somewhat more than I had anticipated in my analysis of what could be done with that money, a new look at this is in order.

I also expect to have another city added to this site after next week. I won’t yet say which city, but suffice it to say it is a good example of LRT that operates in both its own right of way and in full mixed traffic. Oh, and it provides airport access as well!

This Site to be Down Briefly

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Sometime in the next week, this site will be down for a brief period as it will be relocated to a new server by the hosting provider. Additionally, the “daxack.ca” domain will be assigned a new IP address and this will take a few hours to propagate across the Internet, so the actual outage period may be up to about four hours in length.
