The LRT system in Zagreb, Croatia is operated by Zagreb Electric Tramways (Zagrebacki Elektricni Tramvaj). Zagreb Electric Tramways is unique in that it operates curbside in the city centre and the inner suburbs rather than in the centre of the street. Outside of this, trams run along the centre median of the road with far side platforms. Trams usually travel at speeds of 25-50 km/h within the city centre but slow considerably during rush hour. Speeds can be higher in the suburbs where stops are farther apart and operate in the median.

Toronto Comparison:

TMK 2200, which is the latest model tram in the Zagreb fleet, is 100% low floor. ZET is a good example of LRT implementation with the following features:

  • Interlining

  • Downtown transit mall

  • Curbside operation

  • Separated median in roadway
